MY ENGLISH COURSE

         I've just finished an English course with John, an Irish teacher. There are some of the contents and tips I've learned from it.


        The words with a difficulty in pronunciation, have a link, to listen to the pronunciation and understand the meaning.

A-Words of difficult pronunciation
  1.  Utter clearly the last consonant of a word, such as SUBJECT, 3 years OLD , SPORT,  OCTOBER.
  2. Words beginning  with S, such as:
    1. SPORT, SPECIAL
  3. Words beginning  with  "H". It is like a Spanish "J" but in a sweeter way: 
    1. Hobby
  4. Words  with  "TH", such as... 
    1.  the, them, mother
  5. Other words
    1. Celtic music 
    2. heart (corazón)
    3. Country (país)
    4. Bisexual
    5. Generosity
    6. Decision
    7. Miraculous
    8. To restore
    9. An achievement
B-The alphabet
  1. We have revised the alphabet. Z: "zed", X: "ecs",  G "gi",  J "jei". 
  2. We have  played to spell words with the hangman word-guessing game.

C- Words with similar pronunciation
  1. Words with similar pronunciation such  as:
    1. You - Jew- due -dew ( difference between  Y and J)
    2. Bowel (intestino) (con  au") which  is different from  bowl (bol de cereales)( con  una  "u"), ball ( sin "u") and bald (calvo) (con una  "d")
    3. Sever- severe
      1.  To  sever a head ( behead a person)
      2.  a severe teacher / severe brain injury
    4. Raise - rays  which  have the same pronunciation and the last sound  is and "z"
      1. race (raza /  human  race - carrera/ horserace) (it's the  same as "raise but the last sound is "s") 
      2. rice.
    5. Fur (piel- pelaje de un animalis different from  
      1. four / fore/ for
    6. Record  (Verb: to record a C.D  /ricórd) )/ record (Noun: to have a  new record/ˈrɛk ərd/)
    7. Vane (a vane weather / vanidoso-presumido ) Vein ( vena del cuerpo)
    8. Peace- piece  ( con "s" sorda)  / peas ( con "s" sonora) / piss ( la "i" corta)
  2. Tongue  twisters
    1. She sells sea shells by the sea shore
    2. Mary had a  bit of butter but the butter that Mary had was bitter so Mary bought a bit of the better butter.
